Bottineau Jig

Bottineau Jig: Untold Tales of Early Minnesota, will be a video presentation of a dance theater performance which includes many types of ethnic music and dance, live music, as well as slides and recorded languages. It also includes the stories of key figures from each of the groups and provides a view of Minnesota and the Twin Cities before they were cities in the 1840s and 1850s. The performance was written, directed and choreographed by Jane Peck and produced by her company, Dance Revels Moving History. The main narrator of the video is Virgil Benoit, portraying an elderly Pierre Bottineau.The video is an hour and a half long. Director Jane Peck will be available after the video for discussion and questions by the audience.

Jane Peck is an educator, writer , historical playwright, choreographer, and dance historian. Her company has performed in schools, colleges an d

museums throughout the Upper Midwest & Canada.

Virgil Benoit was a professor emeritus for the University of North Dakota and holds numerous awards recognizing his academic record and knowledge of

French-Canadian history.
