 e Sibley Historic Site is a handsome structure. While it may be impressive
  and interesting to students of Minnesota architectural history\, the live
 s of its original owners are at least as\ninteresting as the building itse
 lf. The lives of Hypolite and Angelique Dupuis—each of them individually
  and the two of them together—are fascinating and meaningful. Taken toge
 ther\, their stories nicely illustrate a good deal of early Minnesota hist
 ory.\n\nDaniel C. Munson is a retired chemical engineer and a student of t
 echnological/financial history as well as Minnesota history. He contribute
 s regularly to “Financial History” magazine as well as to “Over the 
 Years\,” a publication of the Dakota County Historical Society. He is th
 e author of two books\, Malice Toward None: Abraham Lincoln\, the Civil Wa
 r\, the Homestead Act\, and the Massacre—and Inspiring Survival—of the
  Kochendorfers\, and Fiscal Follies: A Little Fun with Economics (and Econ
